Newest addition to the fleet commences operations
Leighton Internationals new state-of-the-art pipe-lay barge Leighton Eclipse has begun work on its inaugural project.
Following its successful launch in Batam Indonesia in October, the 130-meter Leighton Eclipse arrived at the Mumbai High field on 5th November 2009 where it will remain until April 2010.
The Leighton Eclipse's work plan includes laying pipelines and installing risers for India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s on the prestigious Pipeline Replacement Project (PRP2) in the Mumbai high field.
Following the completion of set up works, Eclipse began its installation schedule with a 20 kilometer, 16-inch lay in around 75-metre water depth. While welding will be carried out using a fully automatic process, the vessel is also equipped for semi-automatic and manual welding.
Eclipse has purpose-built accommodation for 260 people and includes high-quality living and support facilities built to meet the expectations of future generations. The vessel also meets all latest code requirements including Special Purpose Ships (SPS) and Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODU) as well as the requirements of the most stringent clients.
Eclipse uses the latest technology electric winches and is designed to be an economic and efficient vessel well suited for working in the Australian, Asian and Middle East markets.
Eclipse complements Leighton's existing Stealth pipe-lay barge which recently finished installation of 38-inch and 20-inch pipelines and risers in the Red Sea. Stealth is now enroute to India to lay a 48-inch pipeline on the Visag SPM project for Hindustan Petroleum.
Leighton also owns a small crane barge, Mynx, optimally suited as a platform for SPM installations and other similar projects. Mynx is also presently at Visag as part of the Visag SPM project.
